"We are committed to supporting U.S. investors who wish to contribute to Indonesia's development. We will emphasize the importance of sustainability in investments, including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors, as well as the social impact on local communities," stated Minister of Investment and Downstream Affairs Rosan Perkasa Roeslani in a statement from his office on Thursday.
The support will be implemented through bureaucratic simplification and strict law enforcement, particularly in addressing corruption, in line with President Prabowo Subianto's vision, he said.
The commitment was conveyed during an exclusive meeting between the Indonesian government and corporate members of the United States-Indonesia Society (USINDO) in Washington, D.C., earlier this week, as part of Prabowo’s visit, which included a meeting with President Joe Biden.
The meeting was attended by 12 leaders of major U.S. companies interested in investing in Indonesia.
USINDO member Ted Osius revealed that several companies have expressed their commitment to supporting geothermal projects and carbon capture technology, in alignment with the Indonesian government’s initiatives.
He noted that in December, he will lead a delegation of U.S. entrepreneurs to Indonesia to explore business opportunities.
These companies span a range of sectors, including energy, information technology, healthcare, infrastructure, education, retail, and finance, he added.
On Monday (November 11), Prabowo, accompanied by Roeslani, attended a meeting with USINDO discussing cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, education, and defense between Indonesia and the United States.
During the meeting, Prabowo highlighted the importance of support from U.S. companies in driving Indonesia's economic growth and spoke in detail about the government's priorities for sustainable economic development, food security, and investment in energy, infrastructure, and education.
He emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to fostering a friendly and conducive investment climate for international partners, particularly U.S. companies.
