"(President) Prabowo's priority program includes giving incentives for sports clubs," he said while issuing a press statement here on Wednesday.
He said that the incentive plan is one of the results of a meeting held to discuss the second phase of the National Sports Grand Design (DBON) implementation.
The meeting involved 12 ministries and was led by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, he added.
Minister Ariotedjo did not specify the kind of incentives that would be provided to sports clubs.
However, he said their main purpose will be to support the clubs to develop athletes and contribute to the sports industry.
President Prabowo is also focusing on developing Indonesia's traditional martial art Pencak silat, with the expectation that the sport can be recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
The government has been promoting the sport internationally, as evidenced by the holding of the Pencak silat championship in the Netherlands from November 21–23, 2024, and Abu Dhabi from December 18–22.
In addition to incentives, the government is encouraging the certification of sports products manufactured by local industries.
"We can assist in the (local product) certification in accordance with international federation (standards)," Ariotedjo said.
That way, he explained, the government hopes that the sports products manufactured in Indonesia can be used in international championships in the future.
Ariotedjo explained that the government will formulate the phase two DBON implementation based on the evaluation and changes recommended in phase one.
The second phase DBON will also focus on priority sports so that the nation can gain achievements at international level competitions, such as the Asian Games, Olympics, and World Cup.
