Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited a new toll road section connecting Tanjung Pura and Pangkalan Brandan sub-districts in Langkat, North Sumatra, on Tuesday.

He inspected the readiness of the section and its supporting facilities to ensure smooth and convenient travel for the public during the year-end holidays, according to a statement from his office.

Gibran said that toll roads are strategic routes that connect regions, reduce travel time, and support logistics distribution.

The 18.9-km Tanjung Pura–Pangkalan Brandan section is part of the 38.5-km Binjai–Langsa Toll Road project.

According to the Toll Road Regulatory Agency, two previous sections of the project have been operational: Binjai–Stabat since February 2022 and Stabat–Tanjung Pura since July 2024.

With the new section operational, travel time from Binjai to Pangkalan Brandan can be shortened to 30 minutes from the previous 90 minutes.

It has been opened temporarily until January 7, 2025, to accommodate the rise in traffic during the holidays.

Though it is temporarily opened, Gibran said he expects the section to function optimally and help people enjoy their travel.
