Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri) stated that the trend of criminality and traffic accidents decreased from December 21, 2024, to January 2, 2025, when Operation Lilin 2024 was implemented.

Head of Operation Lilin 2024, concurrently head of the Polri Traffic Corps, Inspector General Aan Suhanan, noted in a statement received here on Friday that his side deployed 132,327 personnel in the operation.

The operation was held to secure people's mobility during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 period.

In addition to the personnel, 2,794 security posts were established to ensure the smooth implementation of community activities during the holiday period.

Suhanan drew attention to a decrease in the crime rate during the operation.

"From the 14 thousand cases last year, it was around 13 thousand now, or a decrease of about five percent," he remarked.

He also stated that public security and order disturbances that occurred during the period could be handled quickly.

"This is a positive and motivating thing, and during Operation Lilin 2024, there were no significant incidents," he remarked.

Moreover, his side also recorded a decrease in the number of traffic accidents, from 2,842 incidents to 2,497, with the fatality rate decreasing by 13 percent compared to the previous year.

Polri also focused on the surge in the number of vehicles during the homecoming and return flows of the year-end holiday.

He noted that during the exodus flow on December 21, 2024, as many as 195 thousand vehicles left the Greater Jakarta area, while 189 thousand vehicles entered the metropolitan area during the return flow peak on December 29.
