President Prabowo Subianto has allocated Rp4.7 trillion for the Free Health Check-up Program, which will target 60 million Indonesians this year.
This was conveyed by spokesperson for the Presidential Communications Office, Dedek Prayudi, in a statement issued in Bogor, West Java, on Friday.
"The President's perspective on health is not only to treat sick people. Promotive and preventive efforts are much more important than curative efforts," he said.
President Prabowo has emphasized the importance of disease prevention and free health check-ups to reduce deaths from cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases, he noted.
The program is needed for health checks for all people, he said.
According to 2023 Socio-Economic Registration (Regsosek) data, non-communicable diseases are the chief cause of mortality in Indonesia.
Deaths due to cardiovascular diseases in the country have reached more than 600 thousand per year.
"Almost equivalent to the population of Cimahi city in West Java. The government considers this requires special attention," he said.
Prayudi explained that people with hypertension, cholesterol, and heart attacks can be treated and saved if they routinely get their health checked.
The Free Health Check-up Program will be implemented in stages from this year.
Over the next five years, it is expected that 200 million people will benefit from the program.
Prayudi added that the program is not only for people with cardiovascular diseases, but also other diseases, as well as different age categories from children, adults, and the elderly.
