Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism is seeking to make Bali a global center of aesthetics and wellness by improving the quality of human resources and standards of aesthetic and wellness service providers.

"Bali has high potential to become a premium tourist destination for aesthetics and wellness," the Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development at the ministry, Hariyanto, said on Thursday.

However, South Korea is still leading in aesthetic and wellness services, he said, adding that Bali also has the potential given that wellness traditions are rooted in the province's culture.

Currently, Bali is one of the wellness tourism destinations in Indonesia.

Therefore, he said that medium-term and long-term road maps need to be devised to support efforts to make Bali a global center of aesthetics and wellness.

Hariyanto said that the development of Indonesia's health tourism until 2025 will focus on medical tourism and wellness tourism.

According to him, the diversification of the two tourism branches at 10 priority tourist destinations will also be carried out, in keeping with the technocratic draft of the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan.

He affirmed that in the near future, the Ministry of Health will create a draft regulation on the categorization of Indonesia's wellness tourism attractions to make it easier for the government to focus on improving wellness tourism products.

He said that the wellness tourism attractions that have been identified promote ecological forests, nature, and sea; healthy lifestyle and fitness; healthy cuisines; herbal, complementary, and alternative medicines; arts and events; mental health, healing, and spirituality; and spa and beauty.
