Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has emphasized the strategic role of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in supporting economic growth and maintaining the investment climate in the country.

While representing President Prabowo Subianto at an iftar event with Kadin officials here on Friday, the Vice President advised entrepreneurs to focus more on labor-intensive and export-oriented industries.

In addition, he asked entrepreneurs to empower farmers, fishermen, as well as micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are important partners in efforts to strengthen the national economy.

He further emphasized the importance of supporting technological advancements and industrial downstreaming to increase the added value of domestic products.

"I also advise you to continue to support technological advancement and, most importantly, support industrial downstreaming," Gibran said.

Environmental balance

Industrial downstreaming must go hand in hand with efforts to preserve environmental balance, he added.

In promoting downstreaming, which aims to increase the added value of products and open up job opportunities, social, environmental, and sustainability aspects must not be ignored, he stressed.

He referred to the real threats of climate change, which can directly impact people's lives.

"The impact of climate change is already before our eyes. Drought, floods, rising sea levels… these are real threats," Gibran said.

The Vice President also invited business actors to find a balance between accelerating downstreaming and protecting the environment.

"We are boosting downstreaming, but we must also protect the environment. We are boosting agricultural production, but we must also maintain the balance of nature," he added.
