Head of the Jakarta Environmental Service, Asep Kuswanto, stated on Wednesday that the plan involves managing 70 percent of the waste and reducing the remaining 30 percent.
According to Kuswanto, goals can be achieved by strengthening community involvement in waste sorting and adopting eco-friendly methods to handle biodegradable waste.
"This includes boosting the circular economy through waste utilization, reducing plastic waste, and promoting self-sufficient waste management in areas and markets," he remarked.
This will be complemented by optimizing scheduled waste transportation and enhancing the role of temporary landfills as integrated waste processing centers.
Kuswanto remarked that additional measures include expanding waste processing capabilities via Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), maintaining and revitalizing waste processing support facilities at the Bantargebang Landfill Site, and operating waste filters on the borders of the Jakarta area.
"The Environmental Service has set a targeted performance activity along with production activity by strengthening community involvement in waste sorting," he remarked.
Regarding the optimization of waste management, Chairman of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), Yuke Yurike, encouraged the Jakarta government to enhance the role of waste banks spread across the neighborhood in Jakarta.
She highlighted that waste banks play a role in reducing waste production and also providing economic stimulus benefits for the community.
She called on the Environmental Service to develop innovative technologies and infrastructure for comprehensive upstream-to-downstream waste management in Jakarta.
These innovations include accelerating the construction of Waste Power Plants (PLTSa) and converting waste into alternative fuels or RDF.
"We are waiting for a breakthrough in technology for waste management," Yurike stated.
In addition, the central government will intensify support for the development of PLTSa to tackle national-level waste challenges amid rising population growth trends.
