Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto reiterated Indonesia's readiness to assist in recovery efforts in Myanmar and Thailand following the destructive 7.7-magnitude earthquake on Friday (March 28).

"Indonesia stands ready to provide all necessary support for recovery efforts in affected areas," the president noted in his written remarks on social media X on Friday evening.

Prabowo also extended his deepest condolences for the devastating earthquake, which so far has caused 150 deaths and hundreds more injured in the two countries.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of both countries during this difficult time," Prabowo remarked.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Myanmar at 1 p.m. local time, with its tremors strongly felt across the central and northern parts of Thailand, including its capital Bangkok.

The earthquake epicenter was located some 13 kilometers north-northwest of Sagaing City in Myanmar. According to the US Geographic Survey, the first quake was followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock 12 minutes later.

Following the disaster, the Myanmar junta declared a state of emergency and, in a move considered rare, appealed for international help for the search and rescue operation.

Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra declared a state of emergency in Bangkok and ordered the initiation of a disaster rescue operation.

The earthquake has resulted in at least 144 fatalities and caused injuries to hundreds more in Myanmar, while six people died and 117 remain missing following the collapse of an under-construction skyscraper in Bangkok, Thailand, due to the tremors.
