Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Poverty Alleviation Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin) is advocating for green investments as a strategic measure to fast-track poverty reduction across the country.

BP Taskin head Budiman Sudjatmiko emphasized that this eco-friendly economic approach is worth prioritizing, considering its potential to integrate economic growth, environmental preservation, and community empowerment in a sustainable manner.

"Environmental issues tend to be overlooked in poverty alleviation, even though the green economy could provide a solution to structural poverty, economic crises, and environmental degradation," he noted after inaugurating two BP Taskin deputies in Jakarta on Monday.

Sudjatmiko said that green investments could generate eco-friendly employment opportunities, boost land productivity, and mitigate the risk of disasters triggered by environment degradation.

To support his argument, the official informed that BP Taskin visited impoverished regions and learned that most of their residents live in slum areas with inadequate waste management and poor sanitation systems.

Therefore, the agency has been encouraging regional governments to pay closer attention to the perks of green investments, he added.

In Kuningan district, for instance, the government has expressed its eagerness to execute a green investment project to advance poverty reduction efforts.

"The success of this project will assure other regional governments that not only can this approach draw investors, but also contribute to environmental sustainability," he said.

He then expressed confidence that the two newly sworn-in BP Taskin deputies, Novrizal Tahar and Zaidirina, would help advance this goal.

Tahar has significant experience in waste management and environmental conservation, while Zaidirina has a noteworthy track record in the empowerment of rural communities.

"Our two new deputies bring expertise in environmental management and village empowerment. They will play a crucial role in synchronizing alleviation of poverty with environmental conservation and the utilization of appropriate technology," Sudjatmiko said.

He added that the two deputies will be tasked with strengthening coordination with ministries, agencies, regional governments, and grassroots communities to ensure accurate and impactful initiatives.

"In essence, all our efforts are part of the national poverty alleviation master plan that we are currently working on alongside relevant ministries and agencies under President Prabowo Subianto's administration," he added.
