Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has decided to reactivate the national movement to address violence against children in response to the increasing cases of child rights violations in Indonesia.

“We remind all parties of the importance of collaboration to answer challenges related to sexual violence, and violence against children in general,” the ministry’s deputy for the coordination of family and population quality improvement, Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum, said on Thursday.

“This is a national movement to suppress violence against children,” she added.

She then highlighted various cases of violence against children, which have continued to increase.

In view of this, the government is preparing several regulations, including the Government Regulation on Child Protection in the Digital Ecosystem (PP Tunas), which is currently being drafted as a joint decree (SKB).

“PP Tunas regulates the electronic system governance. It aims to protect children in the digital realm. However, violence against children still occurs,” Sulistyaningrum said.

In addition, the government has urged national insurer BPJS to help arrange financing for victims of violence—an aspect that has not received special attention so far, she informed.

“Victims of violence are not covered by BPJS. This is our challenge. Moreover, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) also has a special allocation fund for post-mortem examinations, but in 2025, the budget was removed,” she highlighted.

She then emphasized the importance of educating parents and the entire community to prevent violence against children and to raise mass awareness about the importance of protecting children’s rights.

“Parents, educators, and all elements must have massive awareness (on this topic). The government cannot bear the work alone. We must involve the community and the business sector. Often, a lot of content from the business world also encourages violence,” she said.
