Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry will collaborate with the Social Affairs Ministry to support the utilization of vocational training centers (BLK) for the Sekolah Rakyat free school program for children from poor and extremely poor families.

The collaboration will be carried out through the BLKs owned by the Manpower Ministry, as well as regional technical implementation units (UPTD) across various regions.

“This cross-ministry collaboration is a follow-up to the President’s directives regarding the utilization of facilities owned by the Ministry of Manpower, especially the BLKs, to support the Sekolah Rakyat implementation,” Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, said here on Friday.

He added that the ministries welcome the Sekolah Rakyat program and view it as an initiative to improve the welfare of communities living in extreme poverty.

Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, said that the Sekolah Rakyat program will be implemented gradually.

Currently, the initial phase of the program has begun at 100 locations, with a quota of around 10 thousand students. All supporting elements, such as teachers, educational staff, and school principals, have been recruited and are ready to implement the program.

“Now, we are on the way to the next stage, where, following the President’s instructions, the two of us will work together to expand the schools in 2025 and 2026 by (using) BLKs,” Yusuf informed.

According to the minister, both ministries have wrapped up a discussion to identify the BLKs that can be utilized for the Sekolah Rakyat implementation.

In the initial stage, 41 BLKs under the Manpower Ministry’s management will be readied to support the program.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works will also be involved in checking the facilities and infrastructure for the program.

In addition, a curriculum will be developed for the program, with the goal of helping Sekolah Rakyat graduates learn skills based on their interests.
