Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism will soon launch the Kampung Main (Play Village) program, aimed at introducing tourism villages as sustainable destinations to a broader audience, especially children on school holidays.

The ministry’s Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said on Wednesday that the participation of 18 partners from the Wonderful Indonesia campaign shows that regenerative tourism is attracting attention not only from the government but also from various stakeholders.

Marthini expressed hope that this collaborative effort would encourage children — as agents of change — to play a role in driving positive development.

Her assistant, Firnandi Gufron, added that the program aims to foster a love for nature and the environment among tourists, especially children, and to follow that appreciation with real-world action.

He said the 18 partners will involve participants in a range of educational activities, such as traditional games, coloring, storytelling, and photo sessions featuring local tourism village attractions.

Visitors will also have the chance to win prizes, including trips to tourism villages, by sharing their Kampung Main experience on social media.

Participants will get to see a variety of art installations made from recycled materials, such as glass, plastic, paper, and fabric.

Kampung Main isn’t just about providing entertainment and environmental education,” Gufron said. “It’s about instilling a sense of responsibility in young people and motivating them to actively support the sustainability of tourism villages across Indonesia.”

He added that the program is expected to inspire youth to care for the environment and nature during their holiday breaks.

The Kampung Main program will be held at five venues:

  • Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta (June 26–29)
  • Kiara Artha Park, Bandung (July 4–6)
  • Pasar Wiguna Taman Ambarrukmo, Yogyakarta (July 5–6)
  • Kidzania, Surabaya (July 11–13)
  • Secret Garden Village, Tabanan (July 11–13)
