This was stated by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, who accompanied Prabowo at the plenary session of the 2025 BRICS Summit, held at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday (July 6).
"Economic partnerships among developing countries are very important, and it is hoped that the benefits of the New Development Bank can be increased," Hartarto stated in a voice recording received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday.
Hartarto highlighted that during the second session of the 2025 BRICS Summit, Prabowo encouraged the strengthening of economic partnerships among countries in the global south, as well as the broader use of the NDB.
Since officially becoming a full member of BRICS in January 2025, Indonesia has expressed its readiness to actively participate in the NDB.
This participation is considered crucial so that Indonesia can access development financing aligned with the green transformation agenda and sustainable economic growth.
Hartarto detailed that the NDB is currently handling around 120 projects focused on clean energy, infrastructure, the green economy, and sustainability, with a total value of US$39 billion.
During the second session, Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir stated that Prabowo also proposed the "South-South Economic Compact" initiative.
According to Nasir, this proposal aims for BRICS countries to become a driving force in providing wider access for Global South countries.
"The goal is for BRICS countries to serve as a driving force, providing wider access for Global South countries for trade and to further integrate their economies into the global supply chain," Nasir stated.
