Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, has emphasized the importance of accurate data-driven implementation of the Red and White Village Cooperatives program.

In a statement released here on Thursday, he said that without valid data, it is feared that the program would fail to alleviate poverty in villages, even if the cooperatives are profitable.

He further said that precise village data must be the main basis for designing and implementing the village cooperatives program. Juliantono added that accurate data is vital for the government to create targeted public policies.

“Policies should not be made based on assumptions or fake data,” he said.

The deputy minister cited the success of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who managed to reduce poverty in five years through a highly measurable, data-driven strategy for villages.

“With precise data, they identify the poor in detail and what appropriate interventions are needed. This is a practice we should learn from,” he said.

He then emphasized the importance of developing a data-driven national road map for strengthening village cooperatives.

He added that the House of Representatives (DPR), especially Commission VI, must be involved in the preparation of the road map to ensure it is based on findings in the field.

He also welcomed the suggestion from Commission VI to hold a joint symposium to discuss the importance of precise data as a foundation for policymaking.

The Indonesian government has so far established over 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives, which are envisaged as hubs of economic and social services in village communities, offering savings, loans, and clinic services, among others.
