This initiative was discussed during a courtesy visit by Park Soo-Deok, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the South Korean Embassy in Indonesia, to the ministry's office in Jakarta on Tuesday. He was received by Lieutenant General Tri Budi Utomo, Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense.
Head of the ministry's information bureau, Brigadier General Frega Ferdinand Wenas, confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday that several areas of cooperation were discussed during the meeting.
“The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in warship development, establishing the Joint Defense Cooperation Committee (JDCC), conducting joint military exercises, and fostering collaboration between the Korea Naval Academy and the Indonesian Navy Academy,” Wenas said.
He added that both parties also explored opportunities for cooperation in defense industry development.
Wenas expressed hope that this collaboration would enhance Indonesia’s military capabilities in safeguarding its maritime territory.
He also emphasized that such cooperation would contribute to strengthening bilateral ties between Indonesia and South Korea.
“This visit marks a concrete step toward supporting regional stability and boosting the defense capacities of both nations,” he said.
