Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has called on all citizens to welcome and celebrate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day on August 17 with a spirit of optimism, joy, and national solidarity.

At the launch of the logo for this year’s national day celebrations at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, he emphasized that the commemoration of eight decades of independence and sovereignty must inspire all to strengthen brotherhood amid diversity.

“We may be different, we may compete against one another, but we are all brothers and sisters — we are the sons and daughters of the Indonesian nation,” he said.

To enliven the upcoming anniversary, the President encouraged all residents to hoist and fly the Red and White flag at homes, schools, offices, and other public spaces.

He also invited the public to mark the 80-year milestone by organizing positive, collaborative activities, such as competitions, art and cultural events, and charity work targeting vulnerable groups.

Prabowo reminded everyone that the commemoration of Independence Day should go beyond mere ceremony or symbolism — it should translate into concrete, impactful actions, such as cleaning up the environment and revitalizing public spaces.

“No one will respect us if we do not even respect ourselves and our environment. With the spirit of 80 years of independence, let us move forward, shaping a better future for all Indonesians,” he said.

Prabowo noted that Indonesia is moving toward a bright future, with immense potential to become a developed and stronger nation, as envisioned by the founding fathers.

At the event on Wednesday, he unveiled the official logo for this year’s celebrations, which was designed by Bram Patria Yoshugi from the Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI).

The logo, featuring the number 80 in the national colors, red and white, was chosen by the President from five designs submitted in a contest.

The theme for this year’s Independence Day is “United in Sovereignty, the People Prosper, Indonesia Advances.”
