Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has stated that it is closely monitoring the escalating conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, particularly regarding the safety and whereabouts of Indonesian citizens residing in both countries.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, speaking at the Presidential Palace on Friday, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ensuring the protection of Indonesian nationals in the two countries.

“We are doing our best to refrain from making political statements in the internal matters of other nations,” Hadi said.

He added that the government has prepared various mitigation measures in anticipation of a worst-case scenario.

These measures include continuous monitoring of the situation, maintaining communication with Indonesian citizens, and disseminating critical safety information.

“But the most important thing is ensuring our citizens living there are safe. If anything happens, we already have mitigation plans in place,” he emphasized.

Hadi also noted that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to prepare all contingency measures thoroughly.

The government expressed hope that the conflict will not escalate further, warning that any intensification could have regional and even global repercussions — including on Indonesia.

“Of course, we hope the escalation does not worsen, because that would have a global impact, including on our country,” Hadi stressed.

Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia reignited following an armed clash in the disputed border area on Thursday (July 24), which reportedly claimed dozens of lives.
