Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Higher Education, Science, and Technology Ministry has allocated Rp47.1 billion (around US$2.98 million) to boost research and promote its sustainability through three flagship schemes aimed at improving public welfare.

The ministry's director general for research and development, Fauzan Adziman, noted in a statement received here on Thursday that the initiative is a follow-up to the funding for the first batch of research and community service, which is capped at Rp1.47 trillion (around US$93.04 million).

For the second batch, Rp25.7 billion (around US$1.63 million) is allocated for the research program, with 110 universities submitting a total of 375 proposals.

Moreover, Rp17.2 billion (some US$1.09 million) is allocated for 496 community service program proposals from 399 institutions and Rp4.2 billion (some US$266 thousand) to support nine Centers of Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI-PT).

"The funding is spread across 38 provinces, demonstrating the Higher Education, Science, and Technology Ministry's commitment to supporting inclusive research-based development and reaching all parts of Indonesia," Adziman elaborated.

In the same statement, the ministry's director for research and community service, I Ketut Adnyana, stated that all proposals have passed administrative selection, as well as systematic technical review.

Adnyana explained that the second batch of research aims to strengthen research capacity within universities, while community services are designed to apply research outcomes for improving public welfare across cities and districts.

"This is more than just about funding; it also focuses on building institutional capacity and ensuring quality since the start," he noted.

The extension of PUI-PT 2025 funding is granted to institutions demonstrating strong performance and strategic contribution, including Airlangga University, Telkom University, and Riau University.

The institutions focused on topics such as health, space exploration, disability, digital technology, and disaster management. The funding for these three schemes is part of the ministry's efforts to ensure state investment in research and innovation benefits the people.
