The VP will join the ceremony here, he said in response to journalists’ queries at the Presidential Palace Complex on Friday.
His response refuted earlier reports that Gibran will lead the ceremony in Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara, in a potential repeat of the 2024 Independence Day ceremony, when then-president Joko Widodo and then-VP Ma'ruf Amin joined the celebrations from Nusantara and Jakarta, respectively.
This year’s Independence Day ceremony in Nusantara city will be presided over by Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) head Basuki Hadimuljono.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Independence Day ceremony will be the first to be presided over by Prabowo Subianto after his inauguration as president in October last year.
Earlier, Ardiantoro announced that the government has planned a series of activities to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence this month.
The “Independence Month” was scheduled to be opened with a national prayer at the Independence Proclamation Park in Central Jakarta on August 1 at 7:30 p.m.
On August 13, the Heirloom Flag-raising Troop (Paskibraka) members will be inaugurated at the Presidential Palace Complex. On the same day, the government will present national awards and decorations to individuals, groups, or institutions at the State Palace.
President Prabowo, on August 15, will deliver his inaugural State of the Nation Address before the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Annual Session and Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the Parliament Complex.
Later that day, Prabowo will present the government’s statement on the 2026 State Budget Bill along with financial notes during the DPR’s first plenary session for the 2025–2026 legislative year.
At the stroke of midnight on August 16, national leaders will participate in a devotional visit and reflection night at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta.
Jakarta’s Merdeka Palace will host the Independence Day ceremony on the morning of August 17. Following the ceremony, the palace will be opened for a public feast, while an Independence Carnival will be held in the evening.
The Merdeka Run 8.0 racing event will take place on August 24 and mark the conclusion of the “Independence Month” agenda.
