The commitment was outlined in a joint statement issued by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry on Monday following a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Peruvian President Dina Boluarte at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
Both leaders recognised the cultural and historical significance of the two heritage sites and encouraged the signing of an arrangement to promote them jointly.
They also welcomed ongoing negotiations for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cultural cooperation and expressed hope for its early conclusion.
The leaders endorsed a plan for the Municipalities of Yogyakarta and Cusco to establish a “twinning” agreement, aimed at strengthening cultural exchanges.
The two leaders also highlighted commemorative activities that will take place in Jakarta and Lima in the framework of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, which will be useful means to promote and deepen knowledge about cultural expression in both countries.
In addition to cultural ties, the two countries agreed to expedite an MoU on fisheries and aquaculture, especially in fish meal production, while tackling illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.
Prabowo and Boluarte also recognised that Indonesia and Peru can influence and benefit countries in their respective regions by means of triangular cooperation, in line with priorities in inclusive and sustainable development, with the view to alleviating economic and social development in both regions.
The meeting also saw the signing of the Indonesia–Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and a joint declaration marking five decades of bilateral ties.
Cooperation will also expand to food security, mining, energy transition, defence, and efforts to combat drug trafficking and illegal trade.
