Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani expressed support for the Indonesian government's efforts in building international dialogue to reconcile the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

"We believe that dialogue and diplomacy are the best ways to nurture relations within ASEAN, including to resolve the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand," he said in his speech at the 2025 Annual Session of the MPR at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

Muzani remarked that Indonesia is one of the most influential countries in ASEAN. This influence, he said, must be used to create peace and stability in the region.

"As an influential country in ASEAN, we encourage (Indonesia) to make this region a region of peace and mutual respect for the honor of each member country," he said.

As the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia subsides, Muzani expressed optimism that economic activities and political stability in ASEAN can be maintained.

Furthermore, the MPR speaker emphasized that the Republic of Indonesia was established not only for the country's own interests but also to be an inspiration for other nations to fight for their independence and human dignity.

The MPR annual session is held along with the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).

At the session, President Prabowo Subianto is set to deliver performance reports on state institutions and a State of the Nation Address for the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia.

The 2025 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPD and DPR are held ahead of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia on August 17, which raises the theme of "United and Sovereign, Prosperous People, and Advanced Indonesia."
