She emphasized that these functions are not meant to undermine the government.
“Instead, they are exercised to guarantee that every government policy benefits the people and aligns with the Constitution,” Maharani said during the 2025 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the DPR and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) at the Nusantara Building, Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Friday.
According to her, the DPR and the government are constitutional partners in carrying out the mandate of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, along with all laws and regulations that guide national governance.
Maharani noted that the DPR serves as the guardian of both the people’s conscience and the Constitution, ensuring that political power remains accountable to the people, adheres to constitutional principles, and that democracy functions with wisdom and integrity.
She emphasized that the separation of powers between the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches is intended not to weaken one another, but to ensure that no single branch holds supremacy over the others.
The Indonesian Parliament convened the 2025 MPR Annual Session together with the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) at the Nusantara Building, Parliamentary Complex here on Friday.
As part of the agenda, President Prabowo Subianto was scheduled to deliver his first state address as head of state, presenting the performance reports of state institutions and marking the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence.
The 2025 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD carry the theme “United Sovereignty, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia” ahead of Independence Day on August 17.
