“Migrant worker protection cannot be handled by the government alone. It requires cross-sector collaboration, including the youth,” he said in a statement here on Saturday.
Mukhtarudin recently held a meeting with several youth organizations under the Cipayung Plus alliance in Central Kalimantan, which took place in Jakarta on Thursday (September 18).
“Youth are strategic partners. We must build an ecosystem that not only protects migrant workers, but also upholds their dignity and brings real benefits to their hometowns,” he stated.
Chairperson of the Islamic Students' Association (HMI) Central Kalimantan Coordination Board, Restu Ronggo Wicaksono, said that Mukhtarudin’s appointment was a source of pride for the people of Central Kalimantan.
However, he stressed that such pride must be matched by concrete action and collaboration.
He emphasized that the presence of a local figure in the Red and White cabinet represents a major opportunity that should result in a lasting legacy for Central Kalimantan.
The meeting with Minister Mukhtarudin, he noted, reflects the hopes of young people for improved protection and fresh perspective of migrant workers governance.
“Youth must be seen as subjects of development, not merely objects. We are ready to serve as strategic partners in ensuring the ministry’s programs reach regional levels,” he added.
Wicaksono also underscored the importance of youth participation in public policy. One of the proposals is to increase outreach on migrant worker issues in Central Kalimantan, while also exploring local economic opportunities related to the sector.
“We want to ensure that youth in Central Kalimantan are not just spectators, but actively involved in developing high-quality human resources, in line with the government’s vision,” he said.
