“Indonesia and Venezuela have great potential to collaborate on achieving food and energy security,” Sugiono said after the meeting in New York.
He noted Indonesia’s existing presence in Venezuela through its state-owned energy company and called for continued support from the Venezuelan government to deepen cooperation in these sectors.
The meeting also reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to their 66-year partnership, with both ministers agreeing to enhance bilateral ties through political consultations and a joint commission mechanism.
Sugiono emphasized the importance of protecting Indonesian citizens in Venezuela, home to one of the largest Indonesian communities in Latin America.
“Protecting Indonesian nationals is always a priority in our diplomacy. We appreciate Venezuela’s commitment to ensuring their safety,” he said.
The two ministers also agreed to boost high-level communication and reciprocal visits, including at the leadership level, to deepen future cooperation.
Beyond bilateral issues, they exchanged views on regional developments. Venezuela expressed hope that Indonesia would play a greater role in promoting dialogue and diplomacy to support global and regional peace and stability.

The two countries are also committed to expanding people-to-people exchanges and boosting cooperation between government institutions, alongside efforts to promote stronger business-to-business engagement.
