Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally witnessed the official handover of state-confiscated assets from illegal mining activities worth around Rp7 trillion (US$422 million) to state-owned PT Timah in Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung, on Monday.

A statement from the Presidential Secretariat said the confiscated assets included hundreds of heavy equipment units, cash in various foreign currencies, and several smelter facilities.

"This morning, I visited Bangka Belitung. Earlier, we witnessed together the handover of state-confiscated assets from private companies that committed legal violations," Prabowo was quoted as saying.

He clarified that the assets handed over did not include rare earth elements, which could carry a far higher value.

"The value from the six smelters and other confiscated items is around Rp6–7 trillion. But rare earth minerals, such as monazite, could be worth far more — up to US$200,000 per ton," he explained.

Prabowo added that the total state losses from illegal mining in PT Timah's concession area are estimated to have reached around Rp300 trillion, or more than US$18 billion.

"We can imagine the losses to the state from just these six companies — the total has reached Rp300 trillion. We are putting a stop to this," he emphasized.

The confiscated assets handed over include 108 heavy equipment units, 195 mining tools, six smelters, and 53 vehicles.

Other assets consist of 22 land plots covering 238,848 square meters, one dormitory building, and large quantities of refined and crude tin.

Cash deposits to the state treasury include Rp202.7 billion, US$3.1 million, ¥53 million, €524,501, S$765, ₩100,000, and A$1,840.
