Jakarta (ANTARA) - Throughout the first half of 2025, Indonesia exported 206.7 thousand tons of coffee to various destinations, including the United States, European Union countries, the Middle East, and fellow Southeast Asian nations.

In a press statement quoted here on Wednesday, the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) described the favorable export volume as proof of the growing global competitiveness of Indonesian MSMEs.

“Indonesia is among the world’s largest coffee producers, with more than 90 percent of plantations managed by smallholders,” the ministry’s Deputy for Medium Enterprises, Bagus Rachman, stated.

He highlighted the shipment of 15 tons of Argopuro Walida brand specialty coffee to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday (October 6), with a total export value of Rp3 billion (around US$180 thousand).

According to him, the consignments resulted from a partnership between the Argopuro Walida Community and 568 coffee farmers in Situbondo District, East Java. The collaboration is projected to expand to 1,500 local farmers.

“The Argopuro coffee represents a tangible example of how medium enterprises can become the engine of the MSME ecosystem,” Rachman emphasized.

He explained that the ministry had launched the Plantation MSME Holding program to fully harness the potential of Indonesia’s coffee commodities.

The initiative aims to build a more robust supply chain ecosystem by integrating MSMEs and large companies to enhance the value of Indonesia’s flagship commodities, including coffee.

Rachman further underlined that the program positions medium enterprises as aggregators, incubators, marketers, and funders to boost productivity and efficiency while fostering innovation and sustainability.

“With support from the government, state-owned companies, the private sector, and financial institutions, we can expect to build a resilient and competitive partnership ecosystem,” he noted.

Chair of the Argopuro Community, Muhlisin, affirmed the group’s readiness to actively participate in the Plantation MSME Holding program.

“We stand ready to serve as an operator in hopes of enhancing connections between coffee farmers and expanding their market reach,” he said.
