Lahadalia will join energy ministers from fellow Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states at the AMEM, which will be chaired by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, who also serves as Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister.
According to information received in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, the 43rd edition of the ministerial forum will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, addressing a range of strategic matters, including discussions on the ASEAN Action Plan on Energy Cooperation for the 2026–2030 period.
This year’s AMEM is also expected to facilitate the signing of several key memorandums of understanding, including those related to the ASEAN Power Grid and the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement, in pursuit of stronger energy connectivity, reduced carbon emissions, and bolstered regional energy security.
The meeting will also discuss the ASEAN Power Grid Financing initiative, which seeks to establish an inclusive financing platform supported by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
The proposed platform is projected to mobilize over US$12.5 billion to support projects aimed at enhancing electricity interconnectivity across Southeast Asia and reducing carbon emissions.
Held in conjunction with the 43rd AMEM will be the ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2025, which will bring together investors, industry leaders, and project developers to explore partnership opportunities and accelerate ASEAN’s energy transition agenda.
Kuala Lumpur will also host the AMEM+3 Meeting with China, Japan, and South Korea; the 19th East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting; the AMEM–United States Dialogue; and sessions with the International Energy Agency and the International Renewable Energy Agency.
In addition, the series of events will feature a ceremony conferring the ASEAN Coal Awards, the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practice Awards, and the ASEAN Renewable Energy Awards.
