Of the total, online gambling content accounted for the largest portion, reaching more than 2 million pieces.
“There were 3,053,984 pieces of negative content handled, consisting of 2,377,283 gambling-related contents and 612,618 pornography-related contents, including 8,517 involving child pornography,” the ministry’s Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, said here on Thursday.
He emphasized that to keep the digital space safe, the ministry needs cooperation from various stakeholders, including other ministries, government agencies, digital platform providers, industry players, and the public.
Sabar noted that, due to the complexity of tackling online gambling content, the ministry collaborates with several institutions such as the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and law enforcement agencies.
“Online gambling has a wide spectrum, from upstream to downstream. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs continues working to prevent such content from being accessed by the public,” he said.
In supervising digital space, the ministry applies both proactive and reactive approaches.
The proactive approach includes 24-hour cyber patrols, managing the Content Moderation Compliance System (SAMAN), and coordinating with digital platforms during the moderation process.
Meanwhile, the reactive approach involves following up on public reports submitted through aduankonten.id, as well as reports from other ministries and agencies.
“For example, if we receive a report related to fraud or illegal online lending, we will request a recommendation from the OJK to determine whether the content is illegal,” Sabar added.
