Jakarta (ANTARA) -

The Indonesian government is accelerating efforts to reopen key roads and bridges in Aceh after floods and landslides severed major transport links across the province.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said field teams remain deployed to restore mobility and ensure relief supplies reach isolated communities. Crews are installing Bailey bridges, clearing landslide debris, and stabilizing damaged embankments.

Authorities have logged 477 disaster sites, including 143 critical embankments, 46 landslides, and 36 breached embankments. The disruptions affect 30 national road sections and 15 national bridges, with emergency work now 48.34 percent complete.

Several major routes, including Banda Aceh–Meureudu, Lhokseumawe–Langsa, and Kuala Simpang–North Sumatra Border, have reopened. Remaining cut-off segments are targeted for phased restoration by mid-December, with priority work at Teupin Mane, Alue Kulus, Enang-enang, Weihni Rongka, and Timang Gajah.

Heavy machinery and emergency logistics have been deployed, including 41 excavators, 25 dump trucks, temporary shelters, sanitation supplies, and basic assistance for residents still sheltering at evacuation sites.

Floods also damaged community-based sanitation infrastructure, including the Community-Based Sanitation Program (Sanimas) and the Regional Socio-Economic Infrastructure Development Program (PISEW), which supports small-scale public facilities.

Damage also affected 20 drinking-water systems across 10 districts and a water-treatment plant in Langsa. Most Bailey bridge materials are already on site, with remaining supplies en route to Aceh.

Dody said restoration will continue until public services fully resume, adding that the ministry is coordinating with local governments and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to shift from emergency response to rehabilitation.
