Each location now receives internet access of up to 10 Mbps. Most of the connected sites are in the education sector, followed by government offices and health facilities.
BAKTI President Director Fadhilah Mathar, known as Indah, said that expanding digital connectivity in public services is expected to improve productivity, efficiency, and transparency, while also supporting economic growth and social development.
Launched in 2023 and operational since 2024, SATRIA-1 is the largest-capacity satellite in Asia with 150 Gbps of total transmission capacity. It uses very high-throughput satellite (VHTS) technology on the Ka-Band frequency.
The satellite is supported by eleven gateways located in Batam, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, Cikarang, Manado, Ambon, Kupang, Manokwari, Timika, Jayapura, and Tarakan.
These gateways serve as the main links between the satellite and the national internet network.
From May 2024 to August 2025, SATRIA-1 recorded a service level agreement of more than 99.5 percent, surpassing minimum requirements and reflecting stable service performance.
Indah emphasized that BAKTI remains committed to accelerating the equal distribution of information and communication technology infrastructure nationwide.
She said SATRIA-1 represents a concrete effort to strengthen national connectivity and enhance the quality of education, health, and government services, while advancing inclusive digital transformation.
SATRIA-1 is a government-business partnership project with an investment of approximately Rp6.42 trillion under a build-operate-transfer scheme.
The project is carried out by PT Satelit Nusantara Tiga as the implementing business entity, while the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs acts as the project owner, with part of its authority delegated to BAKTI.
The project is supported by a government guarantee from PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (Persero) or PT PII, with a guarantee period of twelve years and a concession period of fifteen years.
The guarantee covers non-termination risks, such as delays in availability payments, as well as termination risks if the partnership ends early due to government decisions or force majeure conditions.
PT PII Acting President Director Andre Permana expressed hope that the government guarantee and capacity-building support would provide optimal benefits for all stakeholders and strengthen market confidence in investments in the telecommunications sector.
He added that support for the SATRIA-1 project is expected to deliver more reliable and inclusive digital connectivity for communities across Indonesia, in line with the expansion of national digital access.
