Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has assured that Indonesia’s accession to the OECD will not change Indonesia’s stance toward Israel.

At a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, Hartarto stated that Indonesia’s position regarding Israel remains the same as conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto in his speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his speech, President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia would recognize Israel as a state only if Israel recognized Palestine as an independent and sovereign state.

“The President has been clear in his speech at the UN, and I think it is clear that if Israel aligns politically on the issue with Palestine, then that is where Indonesia’s process would move. So, there is no other statement except what the President expressed in his UN speech,” Hartarto underlined.

The Indonesian government is continuing to complete the process to fully join the OECD, one of whose requirements is obtaining approval without objections from all member states, including Israel.

On this occasion, Hartarto welcomed the visit of OECD Deputy Secretary General Amb. Frantisek Ruzicka, who came to directly observe Indonesia’s accelerated accession process in preparation for the technical review.

“In this morning’s meeting, Indonesia provided an update on the technical review, and so far the main areas are environment, trade, and the digital economy,” Hartarto stated.

He added that these areas are being prioritized for review due to their complexity and their important role in shaping national resilience in facing today’s global challenges.

Furthermore, Hartarto explained that Indonesia’s target for OECD membership has been mandated in the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029.

President Prabowo has also issued Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 30 of 2025, which aligns the relevant ministries with the OECD accession process.
