Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry has released the latest edition of the Indonesian Tourism Journal (JKI), Volume 19 Number 2 for December 2025, featuring ten peer-reviewed articles on sustainable tourism development.

The ministry said the journal is designed to support policy, research and industry practices as Indonesia seeks to strengthen its competitiveness while promoting sustainability across tourism destinations.

Deputy for Human Resources and Institutions at the Tourism Ministry Martini M. Paham said the publication aims to deliver practical benefits and serve as a reliable academic reference for the sector.

“I hope this journal provides real benefits, sparks new ideas, and becomes a scientific reference for developing sustainable and competitive Indonesian tourism,” Martini said in a statement on Thursday.

She added that, as a ministry-managed journal, JKI continues to build its reputation as a trusted source for researchers, practitioners and tourism stakeholders.

The edition opens with a study by Gunawan and colleagues examining how technology and communication contribute to sustainable “smart destinations” while improving tourist satisfaction.

Sustainability is also explored by Nova Eviana and her team through research on green tourism strategies in Jakarta’s Kota Tua heritage area and visitor responses to environmental initiatives.

A conservation-based approach is presented by I Ketut Gede Juli Suarbawa and colleagues, who propose the Total Ergonomics Ship concept to strengthen environmental sustainability.

From a cultural perspective, Nabil Afiqra Febriza and his team offer an ethnographic study of traditional Kerinci games as a model for community-based tourism.

Digital transformation features in research by Hendi Prasetyo and Novi Irawati, mapping global smart tourism trends from 2019 to 2024 using bibliometric analysis.

Rural tourism potential is examined through an ecotourism study in Girpasang Village by Aditha Agung Prakoso and governance research in Tanjung Boleng Village by Fransiskus Xaverius Teguh’s team.

Gastronomy tourism is discussed in research by Putu Sucita Yanthy and colleagues on circular gastronomy within Indonesia’s tourism industry.

Ni Nyoman Sri Aryanti and her team analyze the role of Balinese women in the gastronomy sector amid globalization.

The edition closes with a comparative study by Yayu Indrawati and colleagues on accessible tourism services at Kuta and Legian beaches.

Assistant Deputy for Strategic Management I Gusti Ayu Dewi Hendriyani said the journal strengthens evidence-based tourism policymaking.

“The Indonesian Tourism Journal will continue to support knowledge development, best practices and national tourism policy,” Dewi said.
