Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government will strengthen staple food subsidy programs for workers through the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) Plus, an official said on Friday.

"We will strengthen the basic food subsidy program through KJP Plus and other social assistance schemes, as well as expand social security through BPJS employment and health insurance integrated with worker data," Special Staff to the Jakarta Governor Chico Hakim said.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung earlier stated that the provincial government will also provide transportation incentives, subsidies for services provided by the city-owned drinking water company PAM Jaya, and BPJS coverage for workers.

With these measures, workers are expected to gain access to free public transportation in Jakarta, government-funded BPJS insurance, and subsidized clean water services from PAM Jaya.

According to Hakim, the Jakarta government is committed to ensuring that the distribution of assistance is transparent and well-targeted, with strict monitoring mechanisms in place to prevent irregularities. The support is expected to help improve workers’ welfare and productivity.

On Wednesday, Governor Anung officially announced a rise in Jakarta's 2026 Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) to Rp5,729,876 (about US$342) per month, marking a 6.17 percent increase from the current UMP of Rp5,396,761.
