Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Defense has mobilized resources from its General Soedirman National Defense Center Hospital (RSPPN) to establish a health post for disaster-hit residents in Aceh Tamiang District, Aceh Province.

The post was set up in collaboration with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to provide quality medical services for citizens in Manyak Payed Sub-district who were displaced by the floods and landslides that struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra last November.

In a press release issued in Jakarta on Sunday, the RSPPN Natural Disaster Task Force reported that the emergency facility is primarily treating residents suffering from respiratory infections, diarrhea, back pain, and hypertension.

"The RSPPN health post, located within the Battalion 111 Dharma Bhakti military complex, serves 50 to 100 patients every day," said Astri Kusuma Dewi, a representative of the task force.

She noted that, in addition to receiving patients at the post, the joint medical team is also providing mobile, door-to-door services in several affected areas, including Majapahit Village, Bandar Maligai Village, and Rumoh Village.

This approach, she continued, is considered necessary to ensure health services reach all citizens in need, including those unable to access the health post.

"We are applying both mechanisms alternately. In other words, we operate the health post one day and go mobile the next," she pointed out.

Dewi, a medical rehabilitation specialist, further added that the government and the military have ensured the team is supported with sufficient staff, medicines, and equipment so that disaster victims have access to reliable medical services.

She went on to emphasize that both the post and mobile services will remain available until Aceh Tamiang recovers from the deadly disasters, which left more than 1,000 people dead.
