Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s National Police counterterrorism unit, Densus 88, has reported a possible connection between a deadly school stabbing in Moscow and a recent bombing at a Jakarta high school.

Senior Commissioner Mayndra Eka Wardhana, spokesperson for Densus 88, said on Wednesday that investigators believe the Moscow attack was influenced by the November 7, 2025, explosion at North Jakarta’s State Senior High School 72 (SMAN 72).

The blast at the school mosque injured dozens of students.

The Moscow incident occurred on December 16, 2025, when a 15-year-old student, identified as Mario Nawfal, attacked a school in the Gorki-2 settlement of the Odintsovo District, Moscow Region.

Armed with a knife, he killed a fourth-grade student and injured a security guard.

Wardhana noted that the handle of the knife used in the attack was inscribed with the words “2025, Jakarta Bombing.”

A photo of the weapon, allegedly taken by Nawfal, was shared in an online true crime community known to promote extremist and violent ideologies.

“This photo was uploaded by the perpetrator himself. It is suspected that he was inspired by the bombing incident at SMAN 72 in Jakarta,” Wardhana said.

Russian authorities confirmed the fatality, stating: “With deep sorrow, a child, a fourth-grade student, has died at school. In addition, several people were injured.”

Indonesian police previously assessed that the Jakarta bombing was partly driven by family neglect and environmental factors, describing the attack as the result of accumulated pressures at home and in the community.
