Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government is boosting the construction of sports centers at the sub-district level as part of efforts to strengthen the province's sports ecosystem.

Head of the Youth and Sports Office of Jakarta Province, Andri Yansyah, said in Jakarta on Friday that the sports center development reflects the provincial government's commitment to developing sports, including basketball.

The initiative is aimed at expanding access to training facilities, supporting early athlete development, and fostering the sports industry in Jakarta.

The sub-district sports center construction program has been underway for the past few years and is now showing positive results.

He stated that several sub-districts now have representative sports centers equipped with basketball courts, ensuring that sports activities and athlete development are more evenly distributed.

The presence of these facilities is also considered strategic in supporting athletes' performance at various national events.

The significant number of medals won by Jakarta athletes at the 21st National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh-North Sumatra in 2024 and the National Student Sports Week (Popnas) serves as proof that coaching supported by adequate facilities yields positive results.

Basketball, he added, is one of the sports where Jakarta consistently excels in both the men's and women's divisions.

Beyond performance and achievements, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also encouraging basketball to grow as a sports industry.

The synergy between public facilities, professional clubs, and competitions is expected to create a sustainable ecosystem.

In line with this, the Jakarta Provincial Government is looking to Pelita Jaya Basketball Jakarta to deliver its best performance as Jakarta approaches its 500th anniversary.
