Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government and the Milan City Government discussed cooperation in several fields including creative economy, public art, urban space development, and urban food security.

The collaboration was discussed during a meeting between Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno and Milan Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo at Milan City Hall on Tuesday (May 13), as reported in an official statement on Friday.

On that occasion, both parties discussed plans for a public art collaboration, involving artists from both cities, in Jakarta on July 2026.

The collaboration will feature workshops and urban art installations jointly created by artists from Jakarta and Milan.

The collaboration is expected to beautify Jakarta's public spaces while also opening opportunities for young artists to learn, exchange international experiences, and expand their global creative networks.

"Jakarta is keen to have public spaces for interaction, creativity, and pride for its citizens. Art must be present close to the community," Rano Karno emphasized.

During the meeting, the Jakarta delegation studied the management of Milan's historic areas, museums, and public spaces to ensure they remain vibrant, comfortable, and capable of driving the community's economy through tourism, culture, and creative activities.

Jakarta also encouraged museum collaboration and cultural exchange between museums in Jakarta and the Museo delle Culture (MUDEC) to strengthen cultural education and open access to international learning for Jakarta's younger generation.

The two cities also explored ways to enhance cooperation on urban food security by promoting urban farming, minimizing food waste, and building a more modern and efficient food distribution system.

This collaboration is expected to support Jakarta's efforts to maintain food stability while encouraging healthier and more sustainable public consumption patterns.

On the occasion, the Milan City Government also voiced support for Jakarta’s plan to join the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact as part of its commitment to building a healthy, inclusive, and sustainable urban food system.

The Jakarta Provincial Government then emphasized that every international collaboration is aimed at delivering tangible benefits to the public, including better public spaces, greater creative economy opportunities for youth, stronger cultural and tourism sectors, and improved quality of life for residents.
