Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono hoped that the media could produce less "noise" meaning information of no significance and instead put forward more "voice" or the meaningful voice of the people.

"This is one of the tasks for all of us especially the media to increase voice rather than noise. This is important for the people and state administrators who have to carry out their tasks according to the voice. There is noise which we should not think much of," he said in his speech at the anniversary commemoration of Rakyat Merdeka daily here on Friday.

He said the media in the era of democracy plays a very important role of presenting clear and correct information because of its functions as the articulator of the people`s and state`s voice. For that the media must be able to select which information is significant and which is not.

Boediono said insignificant voices would not help in the development of the nation and the state while on the other hand the nation and the state needs clear and significant information.

The vice president said by presenting information about the state policies clearly to the people the media helps the people think of their aspirations that would be presented to the state through democratic process.

On the other hand the state also needs information which is clear from the people so that the state could make correct policies.

Vice President Boediono hoped for coalition of national elements for developing the country.

"We have to coalesce. This is a must with all to build our nation," he said.

Several ministers were seen attending the event such as religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali, minister of justice and human rights Patrialis Akbar, minister/state secretary Sudi Silalahi and minister for administrative reform EE Mangindaan, information minister Tifatul Sembiring, minister for women`s role empowerment and child protection Linda Gumelar.
