Jakarta (ANTARA News) - North Jakarta police have arrested 35 drug traffickers in the past 24 days with two of them known to be members of a Thai drug ring.

North Jakarta narcotics chief Commissioner Suparmo said here on Friday the traffickers were involved in 30 cases.

He said during their operations, the police had confiscated 253 grams of marijuana, 5.21 grams of heroin, 462 grams of methamphetamine and 990 ecstasy pills.

He said the drugs were all worth Rp1.1 billion.

The two Thai traffickers held are Melisa Nata Lie (36) and Hendra (31), who are the henchmen of SU, a methamphetamine dealer.

"The two have conducted operations since four months ago. They sell the stuff in the Penjaringan area," he said.

He said the two confessed the stuff was supplied by SU from Thailand.

The drugs confiscated from them included 450 grams of methamphetamine put in 23 plastic sachets. SU has now been put on the police wanted list.

Suparmo said they sold the stuff to persons they know. "We caught them while they were conducting transactions in front of a hospital in Penjaringan (North Jakarta)," he said.

Suparmo said one of the traffickers known as Yuni (30) confessed she had bought methamphetamine in Kampung Ambon, Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

He said the police had difficulties arresting the boss in Kampung Ambon as a lot of officers would be needed for it.

"It is difficult to conduct a raid in Kampung Ambon because a lot of elements are needed for it," he said.
