Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on all parties to create a stable political atmosphere, so that national unity can be fostered.

"We increasingly have to unite, not to create a situation where politics becomes more unstable," Yudhoyono said during a speech in commemoration of the 85th birthday of the country`s biggest Muslim organization Nahdhatul Ulama (NU) at the Bung Karno Main Stadium, here on Sunday afternoon.

Yudhoyono emphasized that Indonesia currently needed a stable political condition. According to him, attitudes and actions of a number of parties that are not conducive will only cause the political atmosphere to heat up.

The Head of State made the statement when he referred to a speech made earlier by the Central Executive Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama, KH Said Aqil Siraj.

Said Aqil among others stated that NU was an organization that always chose the middle way, not extremes, and supports a stable political sphere.

"I fully support it," Yudhoyono said about Said Aqil`s speech.
