The accord was achieved at a consultation meeting at the State Palace attended by heads of state institutions including the chairman of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Taufik Kiemas, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Marzuki Alie, chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Irman Gusman, Constitutional Court chairman Mahfud MD and Judicial Commission chairman Erman Suparman.
At the meeting, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was flanked by Vice President Boediono and several ministers such as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa, Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi and Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa.
At a press conference after the meeting, said the state institution chiefs agreed that political stability was an important requisite for economic development.
They were however also aware of the importance of continuing the development of democratic values while maintaining political stability.
"For economic development to continue as desired, we need to ensure that the domestic situation remains conducive. We agreed to maintain political stability while continuing to develop democratic values and maintain public security and order across the country," President Yudhoyono said.
He said a conducive situation was needed to maintain the favorable investment climate and economic development and ensure synergy between the central and regional governments in their development efforts.
Other agreements made in the third consultation meeting this year included the need to give priority to law enforcement and implementation of justice. The two need to become the country`s main agenda.
"We agreed that this main homework had to be carried out seriously to assure the rule of law and real justice for the people," he said.
The heads of state institutions agreed on the importance of building a good system of government as well as a good governance and making corruption eradication a priority agenda.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the commemoration of the 66th anniversary of the country`s independence on August 17. During the meeting President Yudhoyono also received inputs from participants for the speech he would deliver on August 16.
"What we discussed just now especially inputs from heads of state institutions were very useful for me and would be conveyed in my state address on August 16," he said.
The leaders in the meeting also discussed reflections on independence and development carried out so far from 2009 to 2014.
