The chief of the assistance team from the Profession and Security Division, Brigadier General Paulus Waterpauw, told newsmen here on Thursday the investigation of the clash between police and employees of PT Freeport at Gorong-gorong terminal was fully the authority of the Papua regional police command while the team would only back them up.
Besides investigating the shooting of Petrus Ayamiseba, the team would also investigate allegations of a threat from the Mimika resort police chief. Adjunct Senior Commissioner Deny Edward Siregar, against the chief of the working unit of the All Indonesia Workers Union ( PUK SPSI), Sudiro.
"So far, no official report has been received from the SPSI chief with regard to the threat but the incident was reported to the Papua regional deputy police chief some days ago," he said.
Waterpauw who was chief of the Mimika Police Resort from 2003 to 2005 said his arrival here with a number of former Mimika police resort chiefs such as Senior Commissioner Godhelp C Mansnembra and Adjunct Senior Commissioner Moch Sagi for the past few days was solely for approaching the demonstrating group and the family of the victim.
Their priority was burying the victim. Petrus was buried on Thursday at the Timika public cemetery. Thousands of PT Freeport employees joined the procession to the grave. Petrus is survived by a wife and four children.(*)
