A booby-trapped vehicle was exploded at a tribal checkpoint near the western entrance of Lauder town, about 150 km northeast of Zinjibar, the provincial capital of Abyan, killing at least four tribesmen and injuring two others, the local official said on condition of anonymity.
The car bomb apparently targeted a local tribal chief who led the fighting against al-Qaida, but he survived the blast, the official said.
