Speaking at a function to mark the founding of Pancasila at Nusantara Building, the vice president remarked that "the national security can continue to be maintained because of the spirit of Pancasila."
The five basic principles of the Republic are as follows: belief in one Supreme God, a just and civilised humanity, the unity of Indonesia, democracy guided by the wisdom of representative deliberation, and social justice for all Indonesians.
Boediono explained that Pancasila could unite all the people of Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke and from Miangas to Rote Island.
"When Bung Karno, the founding father of Indonesia, formulated the concept of Pancasila on June 1, 1945, he did it on the basis of historical development," Boediono pointed out.
Therefore, the vice president stressed that the people of Indonesia should continue to cultivate the spirit of nationalism based on Pancasila.
"We have to be grateful that Bung Karno formulated Pancasila as the strong foundation of the state, in which we can live in harmony and unity," the vice president added.
Pancasila Day is celebrated on June 1 every year. On this day in 1945, Indonesians - for the sake of national unity - committed themselves to accepting each other irrespective of their religious, cultural, ethnic and racial identity.
Therefore, through the spirit of Pancasila, the people of Indonesia have been able to build one nation, united by the ideals of Pancasila, in their quest for a free, united, sovereign, just and prosperous nation. (*)
