"The bad weather since the beginning of the new year may subside soon. However, many areas should remain on the alert due to the uncertainty of weather conditions there. Thus, the daily report from Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) should be taken note of," he said.
The sea level in Indonesia is tending to decline, which means less evaporation and reduced cloud formation, Djamaluddin noted.
"Based on the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) parameter, there has been reduced convection in the region," he said.
The low pressure in the area, which usually becomes the source of tropical storms, has started moving away and the wind speed has slowly become normal, Djamaluddin stated.
Meanwhile, according to BMKG data, the low pressure over Timor Sea and the wind movement from southern Sumatra to Banda Sea could still cause bad weather in several areas of Sumatra, Kalimantan, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Southeast Maluku and Papua during January 15-17.
BMKG also warned of high tides in almost all the coastal areas of Riau Islands, especially those near Natuna Sea, which could see huge swells of up to four metres, moving at a speed of 70 centimetres per second.
High tides of 2-5 metres were earlier seen in Sunda Strait, western Bengkulu sea, Lampung sea, Raja Empat sea, eastern Arafuru Sea and Merauke sea.
