It was reported that he was diagnosed for acidity and sent back home, if I am not wrong."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice presidential candidate M. Jusuf Kalla was hospitalized at the Abdi Waluyo Hospital, Central Jakarta, on Sunday night, but it was not because of the vice presidential debate, stated a spokesman.

"No, it was just a routine medical checkup. I confirm one thousand percent that he was not exhausted because of the Sunday evening debate," Akbar Faisal, a member of the Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Jusuf Kalla (JK) success team, remarked at the Jokowi-JK Media Center, here on Monday.

Kalla was now resting at home, and he will continue with the election campaigning when his condition gets better, he added.

Faisal stated that JK spent a night in hospital to undergo a medical checkup.

"Because it was too late, he stayed overnight at the hospital. Basically, he is not sick, it is just a routine medical checkup," Faisal affirmed.

Presidential candidate Jokowi confirmed that JK was hospitalized as he was suffering from acidity.

"He was indeed hospitalized. It was reported that he was diagnosed for acidity and sent back home, if I am not wrong," he noted.

JK, the running mate of Jokowi, and his rival, Hatta Rajasa, the running mate of presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto, took part in the vice presidential debate organized by the General Elections Commission (KPU) on Sunday evening.

Following the debate, Kalla was rushed to the hospital and stayed there for a night.

Anies Baswedan, a spokesman of the Jokowi-JK duo, reported that Kallas acidity problem was not because of the debate. Kalla has suffered from acidity since a long time, he added.

His acidity relapsed because of the fasting, Baswedan explained.

Indonesia will organize a democratic presidential election on July 9, 2014, which will have only two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Jokowi-JK.

Prabowo Subianto is a retired military general and the founder of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), while his running mate, Hatta Rajasa, is a former coordinating minister for economic affairs and the chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN).

Jokowi is Jakartas governor and a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), while his running mate, JK, is a former vice president and a senior politician of the Golkar Party.
