Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President-elect and current Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, handed over his resignation letter as governor to the members of Jakartas Legislative Council (DPRD) on Thursday noon.

"Yes, today I will myself hand over the resignation letter to the DPRD members," Jokowi stated.

Jakartas DPRD is scheduled to hold an assembly meeting on Thursday to discuss about Jokowis resignation as governor of Jakarta. Once the council receives the resignation letter, Jokowi will be replaced by the current Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaya Purnama.

In the meantime, Jokowi will be inaugurated as president of Indonesia on October 20.
