Deputy Director of the South Sumatra representative office of Bank Indonesia Hari Widodo said the largest Asia`s sport event would also contribute to the economic growth of the province in the last quarter of this year.
"As was the Sea Games in 2011, which contributed greatly to the economic growth of South Sumatra, Asian Games would also has big positive impact on the economy of the province," Hari said here on Monday.
Hari said the tourism sector of the province is expected to grow significantly and would have greater contribution to the regional economy until the end of the year.
Improved transport facility with the operation of the Light Rail Transit linking the city and its airport would also attract more tourists to the region, he said.
"The tourism sector would become a new major economic sector in the province. So far South Sumatra has relied mainly on the mining, construction , manufacturing and trade sector for income," he said.
Based on data at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) the economy of South Sumatra grew 6.07 percent in the second quarter of this year, up from 5.29 percent in the same period last year.
The Gross Regional Domestic Product of the province reached Rp104.58 trillion in the second quarter of 2018, based on the current price and Rp74.36 trillion based on the constant price of 2010.
