Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA News) - The central government has designated Radin Inten II in Branti, South Lampung District, Lampung Province, with international status.

With the granting of the international status, Radin Inten II Airport, earlier only limited to serving domestic flights, is expected to serve international flights in future.

The Lampung provincial government public relations office confirmed on Tuesday that Radin Inten II being designated as an international airport was based on Transportation Minister`s Decision No. KP 2044 of 2018, signed by the transportation minister on December 18.

Through this decision, the Ministry of Transportation has urged the authority of Lampung Radin Inten II Airport to meet safety, security, and service requirements as an international airport.

Also expected are the provision of work units and personnel responsible for customs, immigration, and quarantine, and coordination for smooth and orderly operations at the international airport through the Airport Facilitation Committee (FAL).

Finally, the ministry has called for the submission of information in the Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP) over changes in the status of Lampung`s Radin Inten II Airport as an international airport.

This status upgrade is the central government`s response to the Lampung Governor`s Letter Number: 553/0229/V.13/2017 dated February 16, 2017.

Increasing the status of the airport was then confirmed by President Joko Widodo to Governor of Lampung M. Ridho Ficardo during a visit to Lampung on November 23-25, 2018.

During that time, the president had requested that the Radin Inten II Lampung Airport be designated with international status at the earliest possible time.

Regarding the designation, Head of Radin Inten II Airport Asep Kosasih Samapta confirmed he will immediately form an International Working Group (Pokja) Team to follow up on the decision.

"Intensive coordination with the central government will be carried out soon, including the establishment of the FAL," Samapta noted.

Even so, Samapta said his party still awaits an official copy of the minister`s decision from the Legal Bureau of the Directorate General of Air Transportation.
